IBEW HISTORY Founded in 1891 as a part of the AFL, The Union (IBEW) emerged out of simply horrid working conditions for electrical workers. At the time of their founding, being an electrical worker meant making about $10 a week, low even for the era, and a death/injury rate that was double other industrial jobs.

The Construction Wireman and Construction Electrician Program allows electricians to sharpen their skills and knowledge on the job until they are qualified as an IBEW Journeyman wireman. This program evaluates each worker based on his or her documented work experience and hands-on abilities.  We offer excellent pay and benefits that include contractor-paid full family insurance and retirement. Members in the program have access to training and resources to help them become prepared for this challenging and rewarding career.

Journeyman level electricians make an industry high family sustaining wage plus contractor paid insurance and retirement with IBEW Local 1340.  Our members have a say in the workplace by working under an agreement between IBEW Local 1340 and our NECA electrical contractor partners.   Our Current Journeyman Wage & Benefits Package includes: $35.53 per Hour (In Pocket) $6.49 in retirement and free full family health coverage!
